Rós' is a winemaking collaboration between two great friends: Irish Master of Wine Lynne Coyle and Spanish Winemaker Alicia Eyaralar in Navarra. Lynne and Alicia decided to make their first wine together in the 2018 vintage, selecting a two hectare vineyard of native, old-vine Garnacha planted on chalk and clay soils and tended by hand. The sustainably farmed site is located in Navarra’s Yerri Valley, not far from Pamplona.
The grapes are sourced from their small two hectare vineyard located in the Yerri Valley, a cooler subregion in Navarra. The vines are planted on clay and chalky soil, and all viticulture practices are completed sustainably.
2018 was a complex year with a generally cold, wet spring delaying budbreak and the damp weather during flowering leading to higher than usual incidences of mildew in the vineyard. Early summer was initially rainy, but a hot August allowed the vines to catch up and ripening occurred gradually through the cooler than usual September which helped the grapes achieve great balance and fruit quality.
This wine is produced in the traditional Navarra way called 'sangrado'. The must was racked after three hours of cold maceration at 8ºC. Fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts, in concrete vats for 32 days at temperatures of 15-16ºC. After fermentation, the wine was kept on its fine lees for three months in stainless-steel tanks, with regular stirring to add volume and texture to the wine. Harvest took place between 15th October – 3rd November.
This wine is brilliant pink in colour with delicate aromas of wild red fruits, strawberry and raspberry. On the palate, it is fresh and vibrant with a long, dry finish.
