PRODUCER
This label is the brainchild of Shaw + Smith. Martin and Michael have pursued with Shaw + Smith a relentless focus on Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, yet have been itching for a few years to work with other varieties. After much discussion they decided to use another label for these varieties, and with typical Aussie directness, called it 'The Other Wine Co'.
VINEYARDS
Fruit is grown in cool, high altitude vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. Grapes were picked in the perfect window of ripeness to achieve good natural acidity and depth of flavour.
VINTAGE
2016 saw another early vintage, with most varieties and regions finishing harvest by mid-February. This meant lower alcohol, but the warm summer allowed for full flavour ripeness.
VINIFICATION
The Pinot Gris was vinified and bottled in the Adelaide Hills. Handpicked fruit underwent cool fermentation in stainless steel, after which the wine spent about four months on lees to build texture. It did not spend time in oak and did not undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine was bottled under screw cap to retain the freshness of the fruit.
TASTING NOTES
A delicious Pinot Gris with the tell-tale bread crust and ripe pear character of this variety at its best. Dry and crisp on the palate, it is bursting with Red Delicious apples, white peaches and a floral hint, with a fresh and vibrant finish.Grape Varieties |
